Women’s Day 2025 – Meet Dr. Limor Ziv

Researcher of human-machine interactions

Limor Ziv, co-founder and CEO of Humane AI. In addition, she researches Human-AI interaction as a postdoctoral fellow, and lectures in academia and private companies (Google, KPMG, SolarEdge and more) on innovation and AI risk management.

One calculation error that cost $45 million

– Poor data quality is one of the critical problems in the business world today – and it costs companies millions of dollars a year.

– Humane AI is a startup focused on data quality and AI risk management. They help companies improve data quality and ensure that systems comply with emerging regulations.

When data is corrupted, incomplete, or biased, models make wrong decisions, leading to financial losses, regulatory exposures, and a crisis of trust with customers and investors.

There are many examples of this. For example, Uber had to compensate drivers for $45 million due to a calculation error caused by relying on partial data, and Amazon cancelled an AI-based hiring system after it was found to discriminate against women, as a result of mishandling data. Mistakes happen in both large and small companies.

Humane AI solves exactly this challenge. We help companies ensure that their data is accurate, representative, and explainable, thus extracting more value from it and improving product performance. Data optimization not only improves the quality of models, but also streamlines decision-making processes, shortens time to market, and strengthens competitive advantage. And of course, it protects the company’s reputation. If you work with data and AI, we will make sure that your system is based on reliable data, and does not make mistakes that could be costly.

Data is the oxygen of AI systems

– Limor claims that data is not only the “new fuel,” as is commonly said, but is actually the oxygen of AI systems. Data is the basis of all the technological advances we have experienced in recent years. Along with the tremendous opportunities, this development disrupts the balance between humans and machines. Artificial intelligence makes decisions that affect our lives, but often we do not understand how and why they are made.

What drew Limor into the field is the belief that we shouldn’t leave these decisions to fate. For AI to serve us well, we need more effective control over its processes – and that starts with data. When models learn from problematic data, their decisions also become incorrect or biased. Therefore, the way to build reliable, fair and transparent AI systems is to ensure that the data itself is accurate, clear and properly managed from the very first stage of product development.

– “I strongly agree with the work of Cathy O’Neil (author of the book: Weapons of Math Destruction), who claimed that “Algorithms are opinions embedded in code.” This statement highlights an important truth – technology is never neutral or transparent. The systems we build reflect the values, experiences and perceptions of those who created them. When we ignore the fact that technology is biased, because the people who design it are biased, we risk serious consequences. From biases in business decisions to large-scale social distortions. This understanding is a central part of Limor’s work, and therefore she works to ensure that the data that feeds these systems is transparent, explainable and managed responsibly.

Female role models and multiple paths to success

– In Limor’s opinion, it is important to expand the representation of women already working in the field, to present inspiring female examples and to emphasize that there is no single path to success.

There is often a perception that AI is a purely technical field. But in practice, women come to it from a variety of fields, social sciences, psychology, policy, design, education – and the field only benefits from this. The combination of different disciplines provides a huge advantage, because developing AI is not just a matter of code, but requires a deep understanding of humans, social systems and technological influences. In general, Limor is a big advocate of interdisciplinary work environments – they encourage innovation, creativity and critical thinking – and everyone benefits from it.

And if they want to talk to you?

I would be very happy to contribute to companies that reach us through the community. Talk to us and we will see how we can improve your data and extract more value from it!
