Special Webinar: From Academia to the High-Tech Industry as Data Scientists

DatA-IL hosted a special webinar together with From PhD to Industry, where two former academics and current data professionals shared their personal journeys from academia to the data and AI industry.

Roy Yanovsky talked about his transition from marine biology to data science through hands-on work, a bootcamp, and an industry internship — which became his entry point into high-tech.

Matan Goldstein emphasized that the path is not always linear, and that the key is not just learning new skills — but translating and properly positioning the skills we already have in the language of the industry. In the end, what matters most are delivery, communication, and impact.

We also discussed the key data roles:
Data Analyst | Data Scientist | Data Engineer | ML / AI Engineer, and more.

Thanks to everyone who joined — and for those who missed it, the webinar summary and recording can be found here:

From Pitch to Partnership - Investor meeting

“I never heard a customer ask a company whether they have a moat.”

That line kicked off one of the most fascinating discussions we’ve had about early-stage investment in AI companies.

DatA-IL Innovation community brought together four leading VCs to give founders honest, practical advice on a question many are grappling with: How do you truly differentiate your AI company when it feels like everyone is building one?
Do you go broad and experiment across use cases – or focus relentlessly on solving one specific problem better than anyone else?
The conversation was candid, insightful, and refreshingly grounded in real-world experience.

Smart Agent Hackathon
